Pre-installation

• Register your Top Bar Hive with the DPI and/or your local council if applicable. Ensure you further understand the DPI regulations in your area, these may differ between states.
  

1. Installation and Setup – important details.

• Prepare an area by paving or laying gravel to keep grass away.
  

• Place your Bee Healing Hut on a level, stable surface, away from direct water runoff or areas prone to flooding.
  

• Ensure the hut is set up in a well-ventilated area with part shade for user wellbeing as not to over heat inside hut. Bees love sun and hives are kept healthy with direct sunlight! We can help advise according to your space!
  

• Follow the assembly instructions carefully to ensure all components are securely fastened.
  

• The door of the hut should be facing South or West (Southern Hemisphere).
  

• We can advise you of extra shade cloth screening to ensure a private and bee friendly space for guests.
  

• OILING: Is imperative at the set up stage! Please see the Annual oiling tips below for initial set up!!! Exterior recommendations Intergrain Ultradeck and interior Fiddes hard wax oil.
  

• The hut must be installed using metal ground stirrups on the base of each leg and one in the center point of the single hut. it is recommended to use adequate depth of concreate footings to suit your soil type and local building regulations. the feet of the bee hut should be two centimetres above the horizontal component of the bracket/stirrup to ensure water does not sit at the base of the hut.

• Exterior: Wipe down the exterior of the hut every 2-3 months with a damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, and pollen. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could harm the timber or nearby bees.

• Type of Oil: Use a natural water based, non-toxic exterior timber oil that is safe for bees, our recommendation is Intergrain Ultradeck. Always avoid oils with strong chemical additives.
  

• Application: Clean the timber surface first. Once dry, apply the oil evenly using a clean cloth or brush, following the wood grain. Allow it to absorb for at least 24 hours, then wipe away any excess oil.
  

• Timing: The best time to oil is during dry weather, preferably in spring or autumn. Avoid oiling in high humidity or if rain is expected within 48 hours.
  

• The interior it is best NOT to use oils but to avoid mold in humid areas we recommend a light layer of Fiddes hard wax oil.
